Our social skills groups are not like groups your child has been in before at school. We won’t be teaching a lesson by lecturing on topics like “how to join in,” or practicing scripted conversations that don’t generalize to settings outside of the group. Our program is dynamic, generalizable, and FUN.
We utilize a therapeutic table top role playing game (think Dungeons & Dragons) specifically designed to help children connect to their parents and peers. Players develop relationships, build social confidence, and manage frustration tolerance. They build emotional resilience and problem solving skills in real time under the guidance of a trained psychologist. They learn how to work together, collaborate and communicate as they make their way through an exciting adventure over the course of 12 weeks. Every adventure provides new opportunities to develop the core skills of Regulation, Collaboration, Planning, Perspective and Pretend Play.
Working through scenarios gives players opportunities to learn, practice, and problem solve skills in real time, but within the safety and structure of the game and under the guidance of the facilitator. This leads to greater generalizability of these skills to other environments, such as school and home, and relationships with family, teachers, and peers. And it is a lot of FUN! Your child will be eager to attend their group every week and see what happens next in the story they are creating!
Because of the interactive and intensive nature of this type of intervention, cohorts are limited to no more than 5 participants. This keeps the game flowing and provides all participants with many opportunities to develop and practice their skills.
Due to the interactive nature of the program, registration is for the entire 12 week course. Missed sessions cannot be made up as the adventure will continue even if there are missing members of the party. If you need to miss a session, please speak with us ahead of time so we can work with you or write your absence into the story line. Joining via videochat may be available, but being present in person provides the best results for all participants.
The fee for the 12 week group is $600 if paid in one, up-front payment, or it can be split into 3 payments of $225 to be paid on weeks 1, 5 and 9 of the program. Unfortunately, groups of this nature are not covered by insurance. Registration will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis and spots fill quickly when a cohort opens up.
